I haven't had a chance to use the backpack while hiking yet, but I have transferred my stuff from my previous backpack to this one. I think I will like it. I would make a couple of changes though. The small zipper pocket on the top is at the back of the pack and if I were to use it for things like food, which I usually like to put that in a smaller pocket, it would be smashed between my back and my gear(poles, pad, etc.) that is in the main compartment. Also, there is only one water bottle pocket, I usually have two bottles, but I guess I could just keep one inside and switch when the one is empty. I do however like the pocket on the other side so maybe I'll find that I like this better.
This pack is very comfortable when hiking. I like all of the pockets, slots and tie-in straps. I used a Camel Bak Crux 3 Liter water bladder which fits this pack nicely. This will be excellent for my Rim2Rim Grand Canyon hikes and is light enough for short hikes as well.
